Norsk Lastbærer Pool (NLP) has carried out life cycle assessments (LCA) of both our plastic crate and plastic pallet, which show that they are environmentally friendly alternative for packaging and load carriers for the grocery industry.

Everything we do in the NLP is based on the principle of circular economy. This is reflected in how we operate our pooling system, how our products are used and how we repair and reuse all our RTIs. It is a purely circular business model.

Life Cycle Assessment
Through studies conducted by others, we have known for a long time that pooling and the use of returnable and reusable transport items was a good and sustainable solution. Therefore, it was also important for us to provide documentation of this. NLP has carried out life cycle assessements (LCA) of our plastic crate and plastic pallet, which show that they are a good environmentally friendly alternative for packaging and load carriers for the grocery industry.

If we look at the life cycle assessment of our NLP Plastic crate 185 compared to similar assessments for equivalent single use packaging types, our plastic crate is clearly the most environmentally friendly and gives a reduction of 56% in CO2 emissions. The assessment showed environmental benefits when using NLP Plastic Pallet as well. A plastic pallet that is reused over time is better for the environment. The result of the lifecycle assessment showed a 31% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to a wooden pallet.

The biggest environmental benefit is the pooling system and the reuse where it replaces disposable, single use packaging – the more the crates and pallets are used the greater the gains and environmental benefits.
