Our pooling system for returnable and reusable transport items is one of the best in the industry. The system has been developed based on a need to standardize carriers, such as NLP Plastic crates and NLP Plastic pallets, as well as EUR wooden pallets, in the grocery industry. All this at the lowest possible environmental cost.
The pooling system is for, and owned by the industry, in the form of 50% ownership of each of the two trade associations DLF and DMF. The goal is not to make a large profit but to find a solution that ensures simple and efficient logistics between our operating facilities and the wholesalers and suppliers.
Pooling system flow
Our load carriers follow a circular loop, between us and suppliers and wholesalers in the grocery industry.
We continuously strive to have the shortest possible transport routes on our deliveries.
When a supplier orders a batch of load carriers, they are either distributed from our main warehouse or from a warehouse closest to the supplier. The supplier packs the goods on and in the transport items, such as pallets and crates before sending then to the wholesaler. The wholesaler then sends the goods to the retail outlets and shops. The empty load carriers are either returned to the supplier, or to our factory for inspection and washing. When needed, the load carriers are also repaired. Then they are ready to be resubmitted back into the pool.
Our plastic pallets and plastic boxes
In our product range we have plastic pallets and plastic crates of different sizes. The crates have a standard size of 400 mm width x 600 mm length and come in three different heights to suit different purposes.
The plastic pallets come in these formats:
NLP plastic full pallet 800mm x 150mm x 1200mm
NLP plastic half pallet 600mm x 150mm x 800mm
NLP Plastic 1/3 pallet (Display pallet) 400mm x 149mm x 800mm
A large advantage our plastic products have, is that they are easy to handle. No packing or folding is required when shipping the boxes, and the hard material protects the goods better than other packaging. This in turn leads to reduced food waste, in that more goods can be sold in the shops.
You pay for the time you have the returnable transport items / load carriers
Our pricing system is special in the sense that suppliers and/or wholesalers pay a small fee per ordered pallet or box, and then a hire cost per day for the time the customer has the product at their location. It is up to the individual shop or retail store to decide whether they will dispatch the pallet when they have shipped goods, or whether they will continue to hire, and use it for display in the store.
Reuse and recycling
All our products are 100% recyclable. We repair damaged pallets and estimate that they normally have a service life of at least 10 years. When it is no longer possible to repair the pallets, they are recycled and turned into new plastic products. Therefore, we have control over where the plastic goes, and we can safely stand for the products we make also from an environmental perspective.
In 2019 we repaired around 115,000 pallets. That’s 1150,000 pallets we did not need to produce again, and this obviously benefits the environment.
Full control with RFID tagging
All our load carriers are marked with RFID tags, which can be used in traceability solutions. In this tagging lies the possibility of efficient transport and tracking of goods, and it is up to our customers to use them to the extent they wish. This system can, among other things, replace manual registration of goods receipts, and provides continuous updates on all relevant conditions around the individual pallet or crate.
Other information, such as how many times a pallet is washed or repaired, is also documented. RFID tagging offers countless opportunities, and it is up to you as a customer to choose the areas that your business will benefit from. RFID technology can be integrated into your own systems and can be expanded as you wish.
Web based solution
Being a customer with us should be simple and straightforward. Once you are registered as a customer, you gain access to our web portal. Here you manage your own orders and see how many pallets you always have.
